Zonta Club of Bowling Green Area Announces 2008 Zonta Scholarship Program

Bowling Green, OH,  DATE \@ "MMMM d, yyyy" January 28, 2009:  In 2009, Zonta Club of Bowling Green Area, dedicated to improving the status of women, will provide a maximum $2,000 scholarship to a Wood County female resident age 25 years or older.  Zonta Club of Bowling Green Area is part of a larger, international organization known as Zonta International.  Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a global service organization of executives in business and the professions working together, across political and social boundaries, to advance the status of women worldwide. Zonta International members volunteer their time, talents and money to local and international service programs, as well as scholarship and award programs aimed at furthering women's education, leadership and youth development. 

          In addition to the age and residency requirements noted above, the 2009 Zonta Club of Bowling Green Area Scholarship recipient must also show financial need, have earned a high school diploma or GED, and be eligible to enroll or already be enrolled in a post-secondary program of study.  If awarded, the scholarship will be sent directly to the post-secondary school upon evidence of matriculation (or enrollment).  In the event the award recipient will not spend the entire amount in one semester/quarter/session, Zonta will retain the balance and pay out as needed for the student’s continuation in the program.  The award is restricted to tuition, books and/or school supplies.

The 2008 Zonta Club of Bowling Green Area Scholarship Recipient was Loretta (Lori) Hutton of Weston, Ohio.

Lori Hutton, embodies the attributes of a Zonta scholarship winner as evidenced through her pursuit of education, attention to her family and community involvement. Lori plans to pursue her graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology program at BGSU or University of Toledo. She was able to maintain a GPA of over 3.2 while tending to her duties as a wife, mother of four and as an employee of Wood Lane Residential. During this time, she has attended to her child with special needs as well as caring for an ailing relative. She also managed to serve as an Americorp member at Wood County Educational Service Center and as a volunteer for the Wood County CASA program.
